Unexpected dental treatment can place significant financial strain on individuals and families. In certain circumstances, you may be eligible to access your superannuation early to help cover the cost of essential dental treatment.
Early release of super is regulated by the Australian Government and is only available under strict eligibility criteria.
Approval is granted by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), not by the dental practice.
Log in to your myGov account, access the ATO portal, and submit an application under the “Compassionate Grounds” category. You will need to upload the supporting documentation provided.
If your application is approved and funds are released, we will schedule your treatment and ensure everything is in place to provide you with a smooth and comfortable experience.
We strongly recommend speaking with a licensed financial adviser or visiting the ATO website to fully understand the implications before applying.
Our goal is to make the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible, while ensuring you receive the dental care you need.

Early release of super is intended as a last resort, once other ways of paying for treatment have been considered.
In limited circumstances. The ATO can approve early release on compassionate grounds for dental treatment that relieves acute or chronic pain, or treats a life-threatening condition, where that treatment is not readily available through the public health system.
Treatment must relieve acute or chronic pain, or treat a life-threatening illness or injury, and must not be readily available through the public health system. Cosmetic treatment and treatment that is not clinically necessary do not qualify.
The ATO decides every application. If it is approved, your super fund releases the payment. The dental practice does not approve applications.
Timing depends on the ATO and your super fund. The ATO recommends waiting for the outcome, and for payment from your fund, before booking treatment.
Yes. The amount withdrawn reduces your super balance and future retirement income, and it is taxed as a normal super lump sum. It can also affect insurance held through your fund. We recommend speaking with a licensed financial adviser or visiting the ATO website before applying.
