Clear Aligners (Invisalign)

Looking for a way to straighten your smile without a mouth full of metal? Clear aligners, including Invisalign, use a series of removable, virtually invisible trays to gently guide your teeth into a straighter position over time. They’re a popular choice for teens and adults dealing with mild to moderate crowding or spacing, giving you the freedom to eat, brush and floss normally throughout treatment. At J1 Dental, we map your entire journey in advance using detailed digital scanning, so you can preview a simulation of your future smile before you commit to anything. Each tray is typically worn for one to two weeks before you move on to the next, with your teeth shifting gradually and comfortably along the way.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear aligner system that straightens teeth using a custom-made sequence of thin, transparent plastic trays rather than fixed metal brackets and wires. Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out to eat, drink, brush and floss, making it far easier to keep your teeth and gums healthy during treatment. It suits most cases of mild to moderate misalignment, and the smooth plastic is generally more comfortable against your cheeks and gums than traditional braces. Our team plans your whole treatment digitally from the outset, so you know roughly what to expect before your first tray goes in.

How Clear Aligners Treatment Works

  1. Consultation and digital scan. We take a detailed 3D scan and photos of your teeth to start mapping out your personalised treatment plan.
  2. Digital treatment simulation. You’ll be shown a simulation of how your teeth are expected to move at each stage, along with a preview of your projected final smile, before you decide to proceed.
  3. Your aligners are made. Once you’re happy with the plan, a complete series of custom aligner trays is manufactured specifically for your teeth.
  4. Wearing your aligners. You’ll wear each tray for around 20 to 22 hours a day, swapping to the next one in the series every one to two weeks as advised by your dentist.
  5. Progress check-ups. We’ll see you roughly every six to ten weeks to check your teeth are tracking correctly and answer any questions.
  6. Finishing up with retainers. Once treatment is complete, retainers help keep your teeth in their new position for the long term.

Clear Aligners FAQs

Are clear aligners as effective as traditional braces?
For mild to moderate alignment concerns, clear aligners can achieve results comparable to braces. More severe or complex crowding may still be better suited to traditional braces, which your dentist can discuss with you at your consultation.
Most patients complete treatment within 12 to 24 months, though the exact timeframe depends on how complex your case is.
Aligners should be worn for around 20 to 22 hours each day, only removed for eating, drinking and brushing your teeth.
Yes. Our digital simulation gives you a preview of your projected final result before you commit to treatment.
Some mild pressure or tenderness in the first day or two after switching to a new tray is normal and settles quickly as your teeth adjust.
