Orthodontics

Whether its braces or comfortable, invisible aligners, we have the smile-straightening solution for you. Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with correcting the alignment of teeth. You can either use braces or Invisalign to straighten your teeth.

There are two main types of braces: Fixed braces (small brackets that are cemented to the teeth for the duration of the treatment); and Removable braces (Invisalign). By using a series of clear removable aligners, Invisalign straightens your teeth. Every 2 weeks you move on to your next set of aligners, your teeth will move little by little, week by week, until they have moved to the final position. Comfortable to wear, our aligners are also removable so you can eat, drink, brush, and floss as usual.

Its aim is to produce a healthy, functional bite and improving personal appearance. This contributes to mental and physical well-being

Crowns & Bridges

Tooth-like porcelain or gold coverings to protect and secure worn, damaged teeth or to replace missing gaps.

CROWNS
Crowns are restorations that cover or cap teeth, restoring them to their natural size, shape, and colour. They are needed when there is a need to strengthen teeth that are mechanically weakened (e.g. teeth with large cavities). Crowns may also be used for modifying the colour or position of teeth. The treatment can be completed in usually completed in as little as two weeks or over a longer period (depending on when you are available to see the dentist for the fitting of the permanent crown). We usually do not recommend using the temporary crown for more than one month.

How long will the crown last?
Crowned teeth are no stronger or weaker than your own natural teeth. As a matter of fact, crowns are used for strengthening weakened teeth. With proper daily home care and regular professional maintenance (every 6 months check-up), crowned teeth will last for many years.

BRIDGE
A bridge is a custom device anchored to adjacent teeth that replaces one or more missing teeth. Losing a permanent tooth – whether it is due to dental decay, periodontal (gum) disease, injury or accident – can cause many serious problems for your neighbouring teeth. The remaining teeth may begin to shift due to altered forces, the surrounding teeth also will deteriorate faster due to increased forces and stresses on them. Once the bridge is in place, the teeth are stable again.

A fixed bridge is commonly cemented to the natural teeth next to the space left by the missing tooth. A false tooth (called a pontic) replaces the lost tooth. The pontic is attached to the crowns that cover the adjacent teeth. The crowns, which are cemented onto the natural teeth, provide support for the bridge.

Implants

When you have a gap or two, or more, we can replace the space with an artificial tooth root – looks and feels just like before. A dental implant is a small high-tech titanium fixture that serves as a replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. Titanium is used because it is the most biocompatible with our human body. Dental implants may be used to replace a single missing tooth or a complete functional set for individuals who have lost many or all of their teeth. This procedure allows one or more teeth to be replaced without affecting neighboring teeth and is a long term solution for teeth loss.

Enhanced Appearance
After teeth are lost, ongoing shrinkage of the jawbone occurs making the face look older. Dental implants can stop this process. Implants also prevent the bone loss and gum recession that often accompany traditional bridgework and dentures. Implant-supported teeth look, feel and function like natural teeth.

Superior Comfort
Dental implants eliminate the pain and discomfort of removable dentures. Unlike dentures which sit on top of the gums and jawbone, the implants are anchored firmly to the jawbone, eliminating gum irritation and the pain resulting from exposed nerves associated with conventional dentures.

Improved Speech
Ill-fitting dentures often result in mumbling, slurred speech or clicking noises. In addition, the facial muscles become tense in an attempt to hold the teeth in place. Implant-supported teeth enable patients to speak and eat with comfort and confidence.

More Efficient Chewing
Dental implants can restore chewing efficiency comparable to that of natural teeth. A full upper denture covers the roof of the mouth and reduces the ability to taste food. With dental implants, the roof of the mouth can be freed up so that food can be tasted and enjoyed significantly better.

Protection of Remaining Natural Teeth
Unlike a fixed bridge, dental implants do not sacrifice the quality of adjacent teeth because neighbouring teeth are not altered to support the implant. The original teeth are left untouched.

Highly Reliable
Dental implants are considered an excellent option for teeth replacement and are highly predictable.

How much time before the whole process is completed?
From the initial consultation to the time the final teeth are fitted, the process takes approximately two to six months. Bear in mind that other factors will affect the length of the whole process, including, the speed of healing of the implant site, whether bone grafting is needed, and also whether the patient has other medical complications.

How long will the dental implants last?
Dental implants, like your own natural teeth are subject to infection and disease. It is thus equally important to clean implants like your normal teeth. With good care and regular check-ups, it should serve you well for many years.

Root Canal

When your tooth is on the ropes, we can save them with root canal. Be happy not gappy!

What is root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment saves your teeth! Inside a tooth is a soft, living tissue called the pulp (also called the “nerve”). The pulp contains blood vessels, fibers and nerves. A root canal treatment is needed when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. We will remove the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully clean and shape the inside of the root canal, then fill and seal the space. Once this is completed we will then place a crown or other restoration on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function. After restoration, the tooth continues to look, feel and function like any other tooth.

We will ensure that your tooth is completely numb during the procedure. An opening will be made in the top of the tooth and the pulp will be cleaned from the root canals and the pulp chamber. The space will also be sterilized and shaped for filling. Biocompatible material will then be used to fill the root canal. An adhesive cement is placed to seal the root canals completely. A temporary filling will be used prior to the final restoration of the tooth (e.g. using a crown)

Restoration of the Tooth
After the dentist is satisfied with the results of the root canal treatment, we will then place a foundation build up, then a crown will be placed on the root-canal-treated tooth to restore it to full function.

How long will root canal treatment last?
Most root canal-treated teeth last as long as other natural teeth. In a few cases, a tooth that has undergone endodontic treatment does not heal or the pain continues. Further treatment (e.g. root end surgery) may be necessary. If the tooth is crowned soon after completion of treatment, then the tooth should last many years.

Dentures.
Dentures

The quick and easy way to get lots of teeth back. It’s been done for centuries and it works. Dentures are artificial teeth that can be removed. Many people who are missing one tooth, several teeth or all their teeth, benefit greatly from denture teeth. Made from the latest polymer resin materials, dentures are very natural looking and they can be matched in colour and appearance to your other teeth.

Without support from teeth and dentures, facial muscles sag, making a person look older. With dentures, you’ll be able to eat and speak – things that people often take for granted until their natural teeth are gone.

A complete denture is for people who have no teeth in their lower jaw or upper jaw, or both jaws. Complete dentures should be removed and cleaned daily to keep your gums healthy and to allow your tissues to relax. Partial dentures are for people who have some natural teeth remaining, or who only need to replace a few teeth. The benefits are the same as for full denture wearers: your facial muscles will be supported, your smile improved and your ability to chew and speak will be enhanced. The dentures should be removed and cleaned daily to keep your gums healthy and to allow your tissues to relax.

How long will the dentures last?
You should expect to have your dentist reline the denture every two years. A well maintained denture can last for many years
